Michelle actually drives it.

Yesterday I took the nut I'm looking for to a car parts place.

They don't have anything that matches it, so it must be Whitworth.

I picked up a universal battery hold down bracket.

It needs a license plate bracket for the front and I found one for a trailer, which I think will work.

Amazingly the oil filter for a TR3 was in stock.

Last night we were invited to a friend's house for dinner, in honor of a visiting British couple.

So it seemed natural to take the Morgan.

The drive home was the first time we'd ever taken it out at night. I can't see a thing and can't find the headlight high beam switch.

This morning I looked into the footwell and discovered that the high beam switch is right there. Why couldn't I find it last night? Also discovered the switch for the heater's fan and the button to lube the pillars. Totally forgot about that.

This afternoon, Michelle really drove it for the first time. I opened the hood (bonnet) to check the fluids. When I closed it, I heard something hit the floor. One of the knobs that latches the bonnet had come off. The bolt on the back is missing. Whitworth I assume.

We took it out on the highway and we put some more gas in. I tried super premium. Michelle cleaned the windshield. In the process, she knocked one of the wiper blades off. I spilled some gas around the filler tube.

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

1. The "chokes" are not all the way closed when the choke cable is pulled out. I adjusted this and now the engine fires using the choke. Don't have to give it a squirt of starting fluid anymore.

2. I soldered a new fitting onto the wire that goes to the temperature sending unit on the radiator. A test drive confirms that the temperature gauge now works.

3. I discovered that the clamp around the gas filler pipe was loose and tightened it. A test drive confirmed that one no longer smells fumes.

4. I reattached the wooden panel in back of the seats that covers the gas tank. I added two more drywall screws and washers, for a total of 5.

5. Removed the California plate and went to replace it with the Vermont plate "Plus 4."

Discovered that although when eyeballing the plates, the California plate and the Vermont plate look identical, the Vermont plate is actually slightly larger in both length and width. So the Vermont plate would not fit into the license holder.

Trimmed about 1/8" off both dimensions and it fits.

6. Backed the Corvette up, moved the riding mower, and got the Morgan into its slot in the barn. Also turned on the dehumidifier.

7. I took a look at the battery to see how old it was. One of the things I didn't like about this car was the Wally World battery.

Discovered that the battery is just sitting there. No clamp or strap holding it down.

That now goes to the top of the list.

A Nutty Day

When we acquired the Morgan, it was 20 degrees and installing the side curtains seemed like a good idea. They are each secured with two nuts. On the right door, there did not seem to be enough room, with my extremely cold fingers, to secure one of the nuts. So I just put it behind the seats.

Did not realize this was an insecure spot. It fell out and is on the road somewhere.

Today I decide to take one of the nuts to the local hardware store. Discovered it is neither metric nor SAE. So the simplest chore turns out to be difficult.
